Our rating: We chose this hotel partly because of its very good price and partly because of its proximity to Disneyland. It's only about a 10-minute walk to the Mickey and Friends parking garage, from where shuttle trains take you to the park entrance. The hotel itself is nothing special, but was of a normal Best Western standard. It was clean and offered everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The few parking spaces in front of the hotel were rather small and somewhat tight.

Best Western Plus Glendale

Our rating: For a visit to the northern part of Los Angeles, such as Hollywood or Universal Studios, Glendale is perfectly located for us. We always find affordable, good hotels here. The Best Western Plus Glendale also falls into this category. It is located directly at the exit of a major highway, so you are quickly on your way to all kinds of attractions. The hotel itself meets a good Best Western standard. Everything was clean and ok. We would stay here again.

Cambria Palms Motel

Our rating: We were traveling on Labor Day weekend and all the places along the coast were accordingly full. The prices were also extremely high, especially in relation to the quality provided. The Cambria Palms Motel is a small, privately run motel on the eastern edge of Cambria. Our room was in an adjoining building and looked a bit like a storage room. It was clean, but extremely small and definitely not worth the price. We don't know whether the rooms in the main building are better and larger, but we won't be booking this motel again.

Best Western Park Crest Inn

Our rating: For Monterey, the Best Western Park Crest Inn was a very good option, both in terms of location and price. The room was clean, otherwise nothing really special. Since a lot of workers with their large vehicles were also staying at the hotel, it was not very easy to find a parking space in the rather small parking lot.

Our rating: The hotel and our room were very clean and had everything you need for a pleasant stay. The location is great because many of the sights can be easily reached from here. The free parking saved a lot of money in a really expensive city. We would definitely stay here again.
TIPP: We had read in the reviews that the rooms facing Lombard St. can be very noisy, because the street is very busy. We therefore booked a room facing the back and had no problems with noise.

Vagabond Inn Executive - Sacramento Old Town

Our rating: The Vagabond Inn scores especially well thanks to its excellent location. Both downtown and the very pretty Old Town are within walking distance. The hotel itself is rather basic. The rooms were ok, but the mattress in particular was very worn out and therefore not necessarily very comfortable. It was ok for one night. We would stay here again because of the great location.

Our rating: A beautiful and well-kept Hampton Inn. We got an upgrade to a suite. The very large room also had a sitting area. Everything was very clean. We felt very comfortable here.

Our rating: The Best Western in Fort Bragg is slightly elevated, above Pudding Creek Beach. The rooms have a nice view of the ocean, but cost extra. The rooms were ok and met the normal Best Western standard. Everything was clean.

Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins

Our rating: We had a one room Cabin with space for two people. It has a double bed with mattress, a table and two chairs, a gas-powered lamp and heater and a small shelf with storage space. Outside there is another table with two chairs on the terrace and a picnic bench with a barbecue area. Each cabin also has its own bearlocker, in which all food and cosmetics have to be stored. As we hadn't been camping for a very long time, this was a bit of an experiment, especially to see what it was like without a bathroom and shower in the room. Ok, compared to the tent, this was a lot more comfortable, although the mattress was almost non-existent and the bed was very, very hard. This is certainly up to personal preference, but ultimately the lack of a toilet was not a big problem, just like the communal showers. Both were very clean and well-kept throughout the campsite. The cabins were very cozy and homely. We liked it very much and would spend a few nights here again at any time.

Hidden Canyon Retreat

Our rating: The Hidden Canyon Ranch is a privately run, B&B-like motel in Hidden Canyon, a few miles southwest of Great Basin National Park. Everything was very well maintained and lovingly decorated. The rooms were very well equipped and clean.
We particularly liked the peace and seclusion here. I don't know how you get the idea to live here, but as tourists we thought it was great. As there is only one restaurant in Baker, you should plan your meals before your visit and bring what you need for your stay if necessary. There is a fully equipped kitchen in the room. You also have the option of using the barbecue outside. The nearest larger town with supermarkets is Ely.
Breakfast: The room price includes a buffet breakfast. This is partly prepared by the hostess. There is a fresh, hot breakfast dish every day. The rest is the same as the usual motel breakfast.

Yosemite Lake Cabins

Our rating: The camping cabins belong to a large RV park. It is located just a few minutes outside Yosemite NP on the road to Groveland. There is a store, a gas station and a common room with free Wi-Fi. If you want Wi-Fi in the cabin, you have to pay extra. Our cabin was equipped with all amenities. There was a seating area with a TV, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and a bedroom. In terms of space, you could perhaps compare it to a large RV.
With a few minor compromises, we quite liked the cabin. Some things could do with a little renovation or more thorough cleaning, but overall it was ok.

Best Western Plus Fresno Inn

Our rating: We chose the hotel because of its proximity to Sequoia/Kings Canyon NP and a Cheesecake Factory. The grounds were well maintained and made a good impression. The rooms were ok and clean. We would stay here again.

Cedar Grove Lodge

Our rating: Cedar Grove Lodge is located directly on the South Fork at the bottom of Kings Canyon National Park. The lodge is a two-storey wooden building with 18 rooms, a small restaurant and a store. The rooms are not particularly luxurious or new, but offer all the amenities you need. Everything is also clean and well-kept.
We particularly liked the peace and quiet here, in the sense of no crowds. Unfortunately, our room was at the back and directly above the power generator. As this was running all night, it was quite loud. That wasn't great. But apart from that, we really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms could do with some renovation, but everything was clean and ok. So we were able to live with it very well. We would stay here again, but would definitely reserve a room facing the parking lot.

Best Western Plus Desert Poppy Inn

Our rating: We liked the Best Western Plus in Lancaster. It made a new and well-kept impression during our visit. The room was clean and spacious. There are lots of restaurants and stores near the hotel. We would stay here again.
