St. George
Utah
Our visits: So far 3 visits in April 1997, May 2013 and April 2022
Downtown St.George
Description: St.George was founded in the middle of the 19th century by Brigham Young. The intention was to build up a cotton production here. Today, St. George is the most populous city in Utah and the largest in the southern part of the state, apart from the cities around Salt Lake City.
St.George offers a lot of tourist attractions, especially due to its location. From historic sites in the city to countless opportunities to explore nature, you can find everything here. In addition, you have countless restaurants, hotels and shopping opportunities in the city.
For the GPS: 62 W Tabernacle St, St. George, UT 84770 (Thomas Judd´s Store)
68 E Tabernacle St, St. George, UT 84770 (Electric Theater)
47 E 200 N, St. George, UT 84770 (Art Museum)
Our rating: St.George is one of the, at least from our point of view, ideal stops on a round trip through the Southwest. In April 2022, we took a little more time for the first time to explore the city itself a little. Even if there are no spectacular highlights in the sense, we liked the day through the historic part of St.George quite well. All those who also like to look into the history of places, will certainly find something interesting to explore here.
St.George Utah Tempel
Description: St. George Temple is the temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was completed in 1877 and was the third temple of the church to be completed, but the first in Utah.
The building was designed by Truman O. Angell is the oldest temple still actively used by the church. When we visited in April 2022, the temple was being renovated.
For the GPS: 250 E 400 S, St. George, UT 84770
Our rating: For all visitors there is a visitor center next to the temple. Here, too, there are nice members of the Mormon church from whom you can learn everything worth knowing about the temple. Not an absolute must, but who is interested in Mormon history can stop by.
Bringham Young Winter Home
Description: Brigham Young was the most prominent Mormon pioneer and second leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As he got older, Young could no longer spend his winters in Salt Lake City because of arthritis. So a winter home was built for him in St. George. Young lived in the house temporarily from 1873 to 1876, and today it is open as a museum where Church missionaries offer tours.
For the GPS: 67 W 200 N, St. George, UT 84770
Our rating: We visited the house of Bringham Young in April 2022. Two nice young ladies gave us a tour and told us lots of interesting things about Bringham Young and his life here. Not an absolute must, but a nice stop if you are in the area and have a little time to spare.
