Semi Ghost Town Cisco

Description: Cisco was founded in 1880 as a supply station for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. Because of the railroad, the town subsequently flourished. Thus, especially the ranchers of the area used the stop to ship their goods to all countries. Here, that was mainly wool from sheep. With the construction of the Interstate, however, the town lost more and more of its importance and became a ghost town. The buildings were destroyed by vandalism and slowly decayed. Today, only a few of the buildings are still partially used and a few upstanding residents are trying to keep Cisco from going under altogether. Since Cisco is located at one of the scenic routes to Moab (Highway 128) relatively many tourists pass by here nowadays. Let's see if someone develops a business idea and brings life back to the small town.

Update April 2022: Indeed, a lot has happened since our last visit in October 2018. There is now a general store, an art installation and soon even an Airbnb in town.

Our rating: Such abandoned places somehow have something morbid. It's always such a shame to see how things deteriorate. Automatically you wonder what happened to the people who used to live here. Why did they leave etc.... If you have a little time to spare on the way to Moab, this little town is certainly worth a stop. Since the houses are right on the road, you're inevitably going to notice them anyway.

During our visit in April 2022, we had a nice chat with the owner of the General Store. Obviously, the tiny place is really breathing a little life again. Meanwhile, 4 people live here permanently and we were credibly assured that life here is by no means lonely. We are very excited about what awaits us on our next visit.
