Scenic Road 128
Description: Scenic Road 128 connects Interstate 70 with Moab. Not only is the route itself great, but there are also plenty of sights to see along the way. Last but not least, you drive a good part of the route directly through a canyon along the Colorado River.
Our rating: For those who have a little time to spare, we would definitely recommend choosing this great road as an alternative instead of the interstate. Admittedly it takes a while longer, but in our opinion it's worth investing the time. Even if you don't plan on hiking or visit any of the sights along the way, it's worth the drive. There are countless great views to discover along the way.
Ida Gulch - Rocky Rapid
Description: Ida Gulch is the drainage that emerges from the valley between Castleton Tower and Parriot Mesa. The rapid of the Colorado River is known as Rocky Rapid. The landing located here bears both names. Boats can be taken in and out of the water from here.
Our rating: During our visit in May 2023, the Colorado river was carrying a lot of water, so it was quite spectacular to watch the small boats navigating the rapids.
