Moqui Caverns
Description: The Moqui Caves were created by man when sand was needed for glass production in the 1970s. The caves are located about 5 miles north of Kanab. The trailhead for the short hike is right at the turnoff to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and is signposted. Parking opposite the caves is no longer permitted.
From the parking lot, walk a few hundred feet north past the caves to a place where you can climb up the rock face. The first few feet are a little steep, but as you have a good grip on sandstone, it's not too difficult. The steep section is also very short. You climb up to about the height of the caves and then head more or less level towards the top of the caves.
Trail length: approx. 0,6mi roundtrip
Altitude difference: approx. 230ft
Time needed: 1 hour
Difficulty level: moderate
Our rating: A nice little location on the way North from Kanab. Certainly not a must if you're traveling the southwest for the first time, but it's nice to make a short stop and stretch your legs a little.
