Paria Townsite
Description: Paria, the small town on the Paria River was inhabited from 1870 to 1929. But after the river flooded the place regularly, the inhabitants left the area and Paria became a ghost town. Today, only the cemetery and a few ruins are left. Nevertheless, a visit is worthwhile because the scenery with the great colorful cliffs on the Paria River are really beautiful. You can reach the Paria Townsite from Highway 89 via an about 6mi long, unpaved gravel road. During our visit in April 2022, this was in good condition and could have been driven with any car. Nevertheless, one should take a look at the road conditions before driving on it. If you do not hike, you should have seen all important sites in 1-2 hours.
Our rating: Here we liked not only the Paria Townsite itself, but also the drive down to the Paria River. During the whole trip you have great views of the surroundings. You can also see Yellow Rock in the distance. Here you can invest a nice half day.
