Shaman and the Huter Panel

100 Hands Panel Trail

Description: The 100 Hands Panel is located on the cliffs above the Escalante River between Boulder and Escalante. There are also two other panels along the trail, known as the Bighorn Panel and the Shaman and the Hunter Panel.
The trailhead is located at the confluence of Calf Creek and the Escalante River, about 13 miles south of Boulder and 15 miles north of the town of Escalante. From the parking lot, you first have to climb up the cliffs a bit. However, there is a path that is signposted so it is not too difficult to get to the top. Once you have reached a small plateau, you are almost in front of the Bighorn Panel. If you follow the trail further west and keep close to the rocks, you will reach the 100 Hands Panel shortly afterwards. This is located a little above the trail. If you continue along the trail from here, the Shaman and the Hunter Panel is not far away.

Trail length: approx. 1mi roundtrip
Altitude difference: approx. 459ft
Time needed: 1hour
Difficulty level: moderate

Our rating: We came to this trail more or less by chance. Originally we wanted to hike the Escalante River Trail, but as there was a lot of water in June 2023, we decided at short notice to just climb up the other side of the trail. Even if you're not that interested in petroglyphs, this short trail is very nice to walk because you quickly get some very nice views of the Escalante River and the canyon in which it flows. If you're not afraid of the short climb at the beginning, you're sure to find something interesting to discover here. Last but not least, we also found the three panels quite impressive.
