Our visits: So far 1 visit in November 2009

Kodachrome Basin SP

Description: Because of the different colors of the sandstone, surrounded by blue sky and green plants, the area was named after Kodak's slide film Kodachrome . Officially, however, the park was called Chimney Rock SP because of fears of copyright problems. Only after Kodak gave its consent, the park got its current name a few years later.

Our rating: A beautiful little park very close to Bryce Canyon NP.  So if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Bryce Canyon for an afternoon or even longer, you're sure will have a great time here. We visited the park in 2009 in November and liked it very much. Unfortunately, it hasn't been on our itineraries since then, but we will certainly visit again. The park does not have a huge highlight but is nice for hiking, especially if you want to have a little more peace and quiet.

Shakespeare Arch/Sentinel Trail

Description: The entire loop is 1.6mi long and leads to the Shakespeare Arch and the landscape around it. We did not hike the whole loop, only up to the Arch and back.

Trail length: 1.6mi roundtrip
Altitude difference: 656ft
Time needed: 2 hours
Difficulty level: easy - The part we hiked was well developed and very easy to hike.

Note: Since the last weekend in April 2019, the Shakespeare Arch no longer exists. Unfortunately, it has fallen victim to erosion and collapsed. However, the trail can still be hiked.

Our rating: Up to Shakespeare Arch the trail is more or less flat and easy to hike. You have great views of the landscape and the surrounding rocks and mountains. It is the only arch in the park and is quite beautiful to look at. We can definitely recommend the hike, even though the Arch no longer exists.
