Taos Pueblo

Description: Taos Pueblo consists of two building complexes and is located in the northern part of the city of Taos. It is considered the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in the United States. People have lived here in the adobe buildings for over 1000 years. In addition, the larger of the two pueblos is the largest multi-story pueblo building in existence today. Taos Pueblo has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992.

Basically, Taos Pueblo is open daily from 8am-4:30pm and charges $16/person. There are also guided tours, which you can sign up for at the Visitor Center. The holidays, or the days when the Pueblo is closed, can be checked on the official homepage.

Our rating: The Taos Pueblo has impressed us very much and the guided tour, with the many explanations, was very interesting. So you get a very good insight into the history and life here in the village. Nowadays, many families live in more modern houses around the village, but nevertheless, every family here still owns at least one dwelling, which is used mainly for festivities or events. We also really liked the many small stores with great handcrafted items. We had some very nice encounters and conversations with residents and store owners. Taos Pueblo was one of our top highlights during our vacation in October 2014.
