Valley of Dreams- The Directions
The drive in detail: From Farmington, you first head south on Highway 371. After about 78km you leave the paved road and turn left onto Country Rd 7650. Coordinate: Latitude 36.165410, Longitude -108.151553. After another 8mi turn right onto Country Road 7870. Coordinate: Latitude 36.191497, Longitude -108.023813. The roads are in quite good condition. As always on dirt roads, it is better to drive only in dry condition. During our visit in June 2023, a high ground clearance was quite pleasant. A four-wheel car was not necessary. After another 5.6mi you reach a T-junction, where you turn left. Coordinate: Latitude 36.191497, Longitude -108.023813. After about 3mi on this road, turn left onto a field path. Coordinate: Latitude 36.124060, longitude -107.980182. From here on, the road becomes very bumpy. A high ground clearance is necessary in order not to touch down on the middle scar. From the dirt road on which you are now driving, there are several side roads, but you always stay on this main road and drive north. After a good mile you turn left again and drive up a small hill. Coordinate: Latitude 36.133668, longitude -107.969630. Here you can park your car. After about 17mi of dirt road you are at the trailhead. Coordinate: Latitude 36.132089, longitude -107.974080.
Valley of Dreams
Description: From the trailhead, you can basically see the entire hike. You walk down a small hill and after a few hundred meters you are already at the first hoodoo group. Even if it is the smallest group, you can already discover some beautiful stone formations. After about half of the way you pass the second group of hoodoos. After about 1.6mi you have reached the third and by far the largest group. Here you can explore and climb around. There is no recognizable path here and partly you have to climb to reach the most interesting formations. There is hardly any shade on the entire hike.

Our rating: The hike through the Valley of Dreams was a lot of fun. Almost on the whole way there is something to discover. The path is mostly flat and not difficult to walk. Only at the third group you have to climb to get to the most amazing formations. There is a hoodoo wonderland to discover. Everyone who likes hoodoos and badlands will have fun here.
