Box Canyon
Description: Box Canyon is a small canyon in southern California. The high sandstone cliffs on the left and right and the loneliness gives you the feeling that you are on another planet. The canyon became famous because of a doomsday cult that settled here in the 50s and carried out an attack on the cult leader that claimed 10 lives.
Our rating: We drove through Box Canyon in February 2016 on our way from Joshua Tree NP to the Salton Sea. It was not the most spectacular canyon we have ever seen in the Southwest, but we liked it and especially the many small flowers along the way tempted us again and again to a small stop.
