Description: Founded in 1847, the city is picturesquely located directly on the Pacific Ocean. The construction of the houses and the location give the city a very Mediterranean touch. This is another reason why it is a magnet for wealthy and prominent residents. Since Santa Barbara is only about 100 miles north of Los Angeles, the city is also an attraction for numerous actors who have their residence here. You'll also find numerous restaurants, stores, hotels, a mile-long beach and a huge pier.

Our rating: Unfortunately, we have only had time to visit Santa Barbara once. That was in August 1992, and since then we have only driven by, mainly because of time constraints. We remember Santa Barbara as a beautiful, relaxed city. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the pleasant flair. A stopover is worthwhile in any case.
