Elephant Seal Vista Point
Description: Here at Point Piedras Blancas is the largest elephant seal population in California. They have been coming here since the early 1990s, especially during mating and birthing season. In 1992 the first cub was born here. In 2007, there were already 4000. If you are here in winter or spring, the entire beach is covered with the animals.
The beach is located a few kilometers north of San Simeon. It is well signposted and there is a huge parking lot, so it would be hard to miss.
Our rating: Unfortunately, there were only a few males here on the beach during our visit in early September 2019. In spring and summer, the entire beach is often filled with the giant sea creatures. Nevertheless, it was fun to watch the droll fellows. Since you can get to Vista Point directly from Highway 1 without a detour, we would definitely recommend everyone to stop by.
