Calhan Paint Mines
Description: Calhan Paint Mines is a small park with colorful hills of clay in eastern Colorado Springs. It has over 3.7mi of trail system with an elevation gain of 492ft. The area of Paint Mines that is most interesting in our opinion, is located in the southern part. That's why we didn't park right at the first parking lot, but drove down Paint Mine Rd. to the second parking lot. This is the way to the Paint Mine Overlook. From here it is only a very short walk to the Rim of the Badlands, from where you walk a short way down to stand in the middle of the colorful hills. In the Badlands you are asked on signs not to leave the paths. In principle, however, you can move more or less freely.
Trail length: 2mi roundtrip
Altitude difference: 492ft
Time needed: 2-3 hours
Difficulty level: easy
