New Wave
Around Page - Arizona
Our visits: So far 2 visits in October 2012 and October 2018
Note: On dirt roads, road conditions can change constantly. Therefore, we strongly recommend that everyone check the road conditions before each trip. Information can be obtained at the BLM Visitor Centers in Big Water and Kanab, or in the Paria Contact Station. Before reported, during or shortly after rain or snowfall, we advise against driving on unpaved roads.
New Wave
Description: The junction into the New Wave area is just to the left after Glen Canyon Dam (toward Kanab). The New Wave is part of the Glen Canyon NRA. All roads are dirt roads. Since the road to the actual parking lot is only a few hundred meters but often very sandy, you could also park the car right in the parking lot after the junction and walk. The area consists of two long sandstone rocks on which you can climb around and explore everything depending on your mood.
One more note: If you like to drive into the cove , you should definitely have a 4×4 vehicle with high ground clearance. The Cove is located at the very end of the Dirt Road. During all our visits the road was very sandy.
Trail length: As long as anyone likes.
Altitude difference: Depending on the path.
Time needed: You can spend half a day here.
Difficulty level: easy - There is no real trail you can walk and climb freely everywhere.
Our rating: Beautiful location for enjoying the sunset. Even if the name wants to suggest a wave. This one does not have much in common with the real Wave, but it's still fun. Quite nice if you want to fill another afternoon with program in Page.
