Description: Construction of the pueblo began around 1125 on a hill overlooking the Verde River. At that time, elevated positions were preferred because they could be better defended. By the end of the 14th century, the pueblo had over 110 rooms on three floors. The more than 200 inhabitants mostly practiced agriculture.
Many of the foundation walls and also a few rooms of the former pueblo have been preserved and can be visited today on a short tour. There is also a very interesting exhibition of many everyday objects of the time, in the attached Visitor Center.
Our rating: We liked the visit in the small national monument quite well. Those who are interested in the native people of the area can certainly spend a few interesting hours here.
