Barringer - Krater
Description: The Barringer crater was formed by the impact of the meteorite Canyon Diabolo more than 50000years ago. It has a diameter of 1200m and a maximum depth of 180m.
The crater is on private property and serves not only for scientific purposes, but is also used for tourism. You can visit the crater and have a look inside from above. There is also a museum and various tours.
Our rating: We visited Barringer Crater in August 1994. Except for a viewing terrace and a small museum there was not much to see. Sure, it is interesting to see such an impact crater live, but in the end it is just a huge hole in the ground. The very high entrance fee kept us from visiting the crater again.
