Terlingua

Description: As so often, the discovery of mineral resources led to the founding of towns. So too in Terlingua, where mercury was found in 1880. In 1920, 40% of the total mercury found in the USA was mined here. After the Great Depression, demand decreased and Terlingua gradually became a ghost town. Since the 60s of the 20th century, the small town lives from tourism. 

Our rating: The place is quite lively and gave us a bit of a hippie vibe. If you like ghost towns, you will certainly like it here. It has atmosphere and we can definitely recommend a little side trip here.
