Description: Austin, the capital of Texas, is a young and hip city. It is considered the music capital of the USA with the highest density of clubs and music concerts. The city is also home to South by Southwest (SXSW), one of the country's largest music and film festivals, every March.
Austin was founded in 1835 and has been the capital of Texas since 1839.
Our rating: We were in the city, rather unintentionally, exactly during the SXSW festival in March 2018. On the one hand, the city was relatively crowded and the hotel rooms were correspondingly expensive, but on the other hand, there was a lot going on. We really enjoyed our visit to Austin and can well imagine coming here again.
Texas State Capitol
Description: The Texas State Capitol was designed by Elijah E. Meyers and built between 1882 and 1888. It was one of the largest buildings in the world at the time. In 1986 it received the status of a National Historic Landmark.
In 1993, a $75 million major renovation and expansion took place.

Our rating: We visited the State Capitol on a Sunday in March 2018. It was open for tourists and guided tours were offered. This lasted about an hour and was very interesting. If someone has the opportunity to participate in such a tour, we can only recommend it. You learn quite a lot about the Capitol and about Texas.
Outdoor Gallerie
Description: The Hope Outdoor Galery opened in March 2011 with the help of the artist Shepard Fairem. The project is intended to provide a platform for artists to create large-scale art.
Attention!!! Hope Outdoor Gallery has since closed as the site will be used for other purposes. Hope Outdoor Gallery will be moving to another location in Austin.

Our rating: For me as an artist, this was an absolute must see. It was just great and inspiring to watch the young people painting and spraying. Should the gallery be reopened at another location, this would definitely be a destination for us to visit.
