Glenn Goode´s Big People
Current 2024: After Glenn Goode passed away in 2015, he requested that the Big People remain on the property for at least another 5 years before they could be sold. Although the Big People could still be admired for a while afterwards, they have since disappeared.
Description: The Big People of Glenn Goode are located about 2mi north of Gainesville. They greet and wave to visitors, as well as people passing by. So called Muffler Man have been around since about the 1960s. They are mostly made of fiberglass and were erected along highways primarily for advertising purposes. The first Muffler Man is said to have been erected in Flagstaff on Route 66. Over time, they evolved into collectibles and, more importantly, tourist attractions. Glenn Goode began his collection in 1971.
Our rating: A nice little roadside attraction. Not a must see, but quite nice, because often there is not much to interrupt the drive in the vastness of Texas.
