Toccoa Falls
Description: Toccoa Falls is located about 2.5mi northeast of the small town of Toccoa. Drive past the Toccoa Falls College grounds to the very end of the road and you will reach the Gate Cottage. The entrance to the falls is directly in the building. You have to pass through if you want to get to the falls. After a short walk along Toccoa Creek you reach the 187ft high waterfall. It is one of the highest east of the Mississippi. In 1977 a catastrophe occurred here at the falls when a dam broke above it. The accident killed 39 people.
Our rating: Not an absolute must see, but a nice stop on our way from Atlanta to Great Smoky Mountain NP.
