Providence Canyon SP
Description: Providence Canyon is also called Little Grand Canyon and is counted among the seven natural wonders in Georgia. Who would expect a colorful sandstone canyon in Georgia. You can admire the sandstone formations both from above and from down in the canyon. There are several lookouts along the rim and also several hiking trails to explore the park.
Below the rim there are 8 cuts or small canyons that you can hike all. We started with Canyon 8 and that was the one we liked best. The further we got back to the Visitor Center, the smaller and more overgrown the canyons were.
Trail length: 3.5mi roundtrip
Altitude difference: 328ft
Time needed: 2 hours
Difficulty level: easy - The trail is very well developed and easy to hike. In the canyons themselves, you can explore freely or follow the beaten paths.
Our rating: If you know the spectacular canyons in the southwest, this one might not be quite as impressive. We still enjoyed the canyon, though, because in contrast to the Southwest, there is very lush vegetation here that provides a very nice contrast to the colorful sandstone. We definitely enjoyed hiking through the canyons and checking it out. We can recommend a visit.
