Sarasota Bayfront
Description: The Bayfront in Sarasota is a beautifully landscaped park where you can take a walk along Sarasota Bay. The park is nicely designed and invites you to linger. The main reason we visited the park was because of a statue of Seward Johnson. The Unconditional Surrender. The inspiration for the statue was a photo taken in 1945 in Times Square in New York by Alfred Eisenstaedt. There is a large parking lot right next to the park from which you could also explore the wider area of the city.
Our rating: Since we really like Seward Johnson's statues, we try to check them out whenever we're anywhere nearby. Certainly not a must see, but a worthwhile destination for us.
Marie Selby Botanical Garden
Description: The Botanical Garden has two parts. One in Downtown Sarasota and one at Historic Spanish Point. During our visit in November 2022 we visited the part in downtown Sarasota. There is a huge orchid exhibit as well as a large, beautifully landscaped outdoor area that is divided into several sections. If you want to explore everything, you can spend half a day here.

Our rating: We liked the botanical garden here very much. One of the highlights was certainly the orchid exhibition. In a huge greenhouse, the orichids are beautifully presented and it is fun to discover the countless flowers that shine in all colors. Outside we also enjoyed walking through the landscapes and admiring the different plants. We especially liked the part that is located directly on the Sarasota Bay and invites you to linger with its benches and palm trees.
