Key Biscayne - Miami Skyline View
Description: To be precise, you don't have to drive all the way to Key Biscayne for the great view of the Miami skyline, instead you only have to drive to Hobie Island Beach Park, which you reach via the Rickenbacker Causeway. There is a toll for driving on the bridge, which is best paid with a Sun Pass. You can park directly at the viewpoint.
For the GPS: 3401 Rickenbacker Causeway, Miami
Our rating: You have to be a little careful not to pass the exit to the lookout, because there is only one exit in the direction to Key Biscayne. On the way back there is no possibility to exit from the Rickenbacker Causeway to the lookout point. However, once you have made it, you are rewarded with a very nice view of the city's skyscrapers.
South Point Park Pier
Description: The South Point Park Pier marks the southern end of the Miami Beach. It features a pretty park and a pier that leads a short stretch out into the Atlantic Ocean. The parking costs 2$/hour. However, there are not so many parking spaces and therefore you should be here as early as possible to get one.
For the GPS: 3 Washington Ave., Miami Beach (Parkplatz)
Our rating: We enjoyed the visit here very much. The small park and the pier are very pretty and you get a nice view onto Miami Beach. From the pier, it is also only a short walk to the first of the lifeguard towers, which are lined up every few hundred feet along the beach. Here, at the southern end, you can find the tower that looks like a lighthouse with its white/red stripes. During our visit in October 2022, we were also lucky enough to observe manatees right below the pier.
Miami Beach - Art Deco District
Description: After Jacksonville, Miami is the second largest city in Florida. Touristically best known is probably Miami Beach, the neighborhood right by the sea with numerous colorful art deco houses, stores, restaurants and hotels. The colorful houses have already served as a backdrop in many television series and movies and are therefore internationally known.
Right next to the entertainment district on Ocean Drive you will find the large Miami Beach, which invites you to spend a day at the ocean. Here you can also find the colorful towers of the lifeguards who guard the beach and the sea. If you stroll along the entire beach, you will find 31 of these towers.
Our rating: Since we are not necessarily big party people, Miami Beach is not exactly the place where we would spend our vacation. For all those who like to be on the beach and have fun to party, this is certainly a great place to spend your vacation. Miami Beach itself is very well maintained and is rather inhabited by very well off people. Accordingly, one must also expect relatively high prices. As an example, a scoop of ice cream in a waffle on Ocean Drive cost $9 (October 2022). But for one afternoon we had fun to explore the area a little bit. We especially liked the colorful lifeguard towers on the beach.
Wynwood Walls
Description: As the name suggests, the Wynwood Walls can be found right in Wynwood. It is a collection of street art, painted by artists from all over the world. Basically, you can find brightly painted walls everywhere in Wynwood. The Wynwood Walls are located in a closed area, for which you have to pay an entrance fee. Here you can find impressive paintings in the outdoor area as well as several halls, in which always changing exhibitions of different artists take place.
Entrance fees and opening hours
- 12$/person
- Open daily from 11 am to 7 pm. Fri/Sat open until 8 pm
Everything you need to know about visiting the Wynwood Walls can be found at the official webpage.
For the GPS: 276NW 26th St., Miami, FL 33127
Our rating: During our visit in October 2022, the place was a bustle. You could clearly see how popular this attraction is among tourists. Wynwood is no longer an insider tip. Everywhere the former warehouses are converted into modern apartment and office buildings. Despite all this, we liked it very much. The impressive paintings are great and offer, even for not so artistically interested visitors, beautiful photo motifs. Everything is colorful and it is fun to discover the works of art. Since you can also find a lot of the colorful painted walls outside the Wynwood Walls, a visit is worthwhile even if you do not want to pay an entrance fee. There are also some restaurants and stores around that invite you to a little stroll.
