Key West
Florida
Hard Rock Café: 313 Duval St, Key West, FL 33040
Our visits: So far 2 visits in March 1997 and October 2022
Trip to Key West
Description: The Florida Keys are formed by more than 200 islets, which are lined up like a string of pearls, over 180mi into the Atlantic Ocean. They are connected by the Overseas Highway, which runs over 42 bridges from the southern tip of Florida City to Key West. During the drive there are numerous opportunities to stop and enjoy the view.
Our rating: The drive across the Florida Keys to Key West was definitely one of the highlights during our Florida trip. You almost have the feeling of driving directly over the ocean. This drive should not be missed during a visit to Florida.
Bahia Honda SP
Description: The park, about two square kilometers in size, is located on Bahia Honda Key, an island of the Florida Keys. You will find a very nice beach and an old railroad bridge that provide beautiful photo opportunities and invite you to stop on the way to Key West.

- 8.50/car for 2-8 people
- Not covered by the Anual Pass*
- daily from 8am to sunset
Everything you need to know about a visit can be found on the official webpage.
Our rating: During our visit in October 2022, we only stopped briefly to look at the railroad bridge. Surely the park would have deserved a little more attention. We liked what we saw quite well. The park is certainly worth a stopover.
Key West
Description: Key West is a city on the westernmost island of the Florida Keys. The city offers numerous opportunities for recreation by day and by night. There is an excellent infrastructure with countless hotels, stores and restaurants. Besides the Hemingway House, attractions include Duvall Street with its bars and Mallory Square with its sunset events. Key West is also home to the southernmost point of the continental USA.
Our rating: Key West is a tropical entertainment destination at the ocean. You can stroll along the typical white houses, do some shopping, lie on the beach or snorkel in the ocean. If you can overlook the really steep prices for everything and anything, you can certainly have a lot of fun here. We really liked Key West and think that a visit to Florida should include a visit here.
Ernest Hemingway Home
Description: The Nobel Prize winner for literature Ernest Hemingway lived here in Key West, in this house, for more than 10 years. He and his second wife Paulina were given the house by their uncle in 1931. It has been a National Historic Landmark since 1968. Today the house is a museum and can be visited along with the garden.
Our rating: We had fun visiting the house of Ernest Hemingway. It was interesting to learn more about the famous writer. As cat lovers, we had a special treat with the descendants of Hemingway's special cats. If you are interested in Hemingway, you will surely have fun here.
Fun fact: The cats that still live here today can be traced back to Hemingway's cat Snowball . This cat had a genetic anomaly that caused her to have one more toe on her front paws. The actual population of cats here on the property is around 50 cats.

Key West Cemetery
Description: Nearly three times as many people are buried in the 19-acre Key West Cemetery than now live on the small island.
Our rating: Normally, cemeteries are not on the visitor's program, but here there is a unique feature. Although they are not native here, you can find the dragon-like green iguanas (Iguana iguana) at the cemetery. Even if not everyone on the island is happy about the reptiles, they were definitely an attraction for us and worth a little detour.
