Fountain Paint Pots
Yellowstone NP South - Wyoming
Fountain Paint Pots
Description: The Foutain Paint Pots are part of the Lower Geyser Basin. They consist of numerous colorful mud pots. The different colors result from different oxidation states of iron found in the sludge.
Besides the mud holes, there are also a few colorful pools and a couple of geysers. There is about a 0.8mi planked trail to walk around among the geothermal features. The trail is mostly level and easy to hike. If you want to hike the entire loop, you'll have to climb a few stairs.
Our rating: An interesting group, because mud holes can not be observed everywhere in this variety. The mud bubbles form the most bizarre shapes and it is fun to hunt for the most beautiful shape with the camera. We liked it here very much.
