Lamar Valley
Description: Lamar Valley is located in the northeast of Yellowstone NP. It is named after Lucius Lamar, who was the U.S. Secretary of the Interior in the 19th century. The valley is about 8mi long and up to 4mi wide.
Besides the great landscape, the animals are the real attraction here. So the first bison herd was reintroduced here in 1901 and wolves in 1995 and thus resettled in Yellowstone NP. Here you can almost always meet animals and so the Lamar Valley carries its nickname Serengeti of North America quite rightly.
Our rating: During our Yellowstone visits we never miss the Lamar Valley, because here you can usually observe many animals. This valley is very worth seeing.
