Umpqua Lighthouse SP
Beschreibung : In 1855, the first lighthouse was built on this site, directly on the river. However, because of its location, it was subject to constant flooding. So it did not last long and collapsed in 1863. The new lighthouse was built in 1894 in the same place, but 98ft above the river. The tower is 56ft high.
Built at the same time as Heceta Head Lighthouse further north, both lighthouses look exactly the same.
Our rating: During our visit in June 2015, we unfortunately did not have time to see the lighthouse from the inside. We left it at a view from the outside. Who likes lighthouses should stop here briefly.
Heceta Head Lighthouse
Description: The facility and the lighthouse were built in 1883. The tower was named after the Spanish explorer Bruno de Heceta, who explored the Pacific Northwest in the 18th century. In 1978, Heceta Head Lighthouse and Keepers Quarters were listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After two years of restoration, the site reopened to the public in 2013.
Our rating: Unfortunately, we only had time for a view from a distance during our visit in May 2015. The lighthouse stands very picturesquely on its rock, so it is even worth stopping here for a quick break.
