Bear Lake
Description: Bear Lake is picturesquely surrounded by mountains right on the border between Idaho and Utah. The natural lake is 20mi long and up to 8mi wide. It serves not only as a water reservoir, but also for local recreation and offers numerous opportunities for leisure activities. The western shore is relatively well developed. Although there are numerous accommodations and restaurants, the lake is not as heavily developed as Lake Tahoe, for example. So you can always take a look at the lake and the surrounding area even when driving by.
Our rating: Since we always try to avoid long drives on the Interstates, we have already passed Bear Lake twice on our way from Salt Lake City to Yellowstone NP (1998 and 1999). It was not the biggest highlight on the way, but still a nice change in the landscape and also a good opportunity to stretch your legs a little.
