Plymouth Rock
Description: Plymouth Rock marks the spot where the Pilgrims and first settlers reached American soil in November 1620. There is a small memorial around the rock to protect it. Since 1970 it has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Our rating: Obviously, the event of the first landing is significant, but you don't necessarily have to make a huge detour for one little stone. But since there is more to see in Plymouth, you can already make a short stop here.
Mayflower II
Description: The Mayflower II is a replica of the original Mayflower, with which the first settlers from England came across the Atlantic to North America in 1620. On the 92ft long and 30ft wide sailing ship crowded, under Captain Christopher Jones, 102 passengers and 31 crew members.
Our rating: We were able to visit the Mayflower in October 2013 and found the museum and the ship really impressive. Hard to believe how the almost 150 people and animals survived the crossing in such a small space. We can only recommend a visit, especially if you are interested in the settlement history of the USA.
