Kitch-Iti-Kipi
Description: Kitch-iti-kipi is located in Palms Book State Park and is Michigan's largest natural freshwater spring. The name means “big cold spring” in the Ojibwe language. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Upper Peninsula. The state of Michigan received the spring and the land surrounding it in 1926 on the condition that it be turned into a public park. Since then, the state has acquired the surrounding land and expanded the park considerably. The pool around the spring measures approximately 299feet x 174feet and is about 40feet deep.
Our rating: The turquoise water of the spring is impressive and offers a beautiful sight. You can take the self-operated ferry to the middle of the spring and take a look at the crystal-clear water. The unusual way of discovering the spring makes the visit interesting and really worthwhile for us.
