Upper Peninsula highlights
The Upper Peninsula (UP) is the northern of the two peninsulas that make up the state of Michigan. The UP covers about a third of Michigan's land area, but is home to only 3% of the total population. The entire region is rather rural. Due to the huge forest areas, timber is one of the most important economic factors. Tourism also plays an important role, as there are almost countless opportunities to enjoy the beautiful nature here.
