Hell

Description: Hell is a tiny town with fewer than 300 residents, which mainly profits from promoting its name. There are a number of theories about the origin of the name Hell. The first is that two German travelers stepped out of a stagecoach on a sunny afternoon in the 1830s and one said to the other, “So schön hell!” Their comments were overheard by some locals and the name stuck. Since there is a place in the Upper Peninsula called Paradise, you can travel from hell to paradise in one day.

Our rating: There's not really much more to see than a store and a restaurant with a few photo opportunities. The place is certainly not a must-see, but as we like quirky little places like this, we really enjoyed the trip.
