Michigan

Lower Peninsula highlights

The Lower Peninsula (LP) is the southernmost of the two peninsulas that form the state of Michigan. The LP covers about two-thirds of Michigan's land area, but is home to 97 percent of the total population. It is fondly known as Mitten because its outline resembles a mitten. In addition to the Detoit metropolitan region and several large cities such as Grand Rapids, there are also plenty of beaches, pretty little towns and great nature around Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.
