Mushroom Rock SP
Description: The smallest state park in Kansas is located about 28.6mi west of Salina. The drive is quite easy. You travel west on Highway 140 and after about 24.2mi you turn onto Highway 141. Follow this road south for about 1.9mi. Here is the junction to a small dirt road on the right side. Coordinate: Latitude 38.725935, Longitude-97.983658. Follow this road for another 2.5mi and you will reach the state park.
There are two big hoodoos made of Dakota sandstone. One is on the right and the second is on the left side of the road. To find the second hoodoo you have to cross a small creek. But this is no problem, because there is a bridge.
There is no entrance fee to the small state park.
Our rating: We expected a little more than two hoodoos. Not a must see , but there is not soooo much to find in the vastness of Kansas, so we were satisfied with the small State Park as well. Quite nice if you're in the area anyway, but you certainly don't have to drive a huge detour for it.
