Dodge City
Description: Dodge City was founded in 1847 when a fort was built along the Santa Fe Trail to supply troops.
In 1871 the first settlers arrived. With the railroad passing through and its central location, Dodge City quickly developed into a cattle handling center for ranchers near and far. Even today there are still huge cattle ranches around Dodge City. The town became famous because several gunslingers, such as the Virgil brothers and Dog Holiday, settled here and did their mischief.
In the 20th century, the city became known to a worldwide audience through the television series Gun Smoke . The series about U.S. Marshal Dilon was set in the city.
Our rating: Dodge City is certainly worth a trip. At least if you are interested in the Wild West and the US settlement history.
Boot Hill
Description: Boot Hill is a western town and museum in Doge City. It deals with the history of the Wild West and the role of Doge City at the time of the first settlers and Western heroes.
Our rating: We took a very long detour on our June 2017 tour to see Dodge City and Boot Hill and we were not disappointed. We really liked it here. The western town looks very authentic and there are countless exhibits from the Wild West era to admire. Anyone who is interested in this time will certainly have fun here.
