Activities and hikes in Yoho National Park

Natural Bridge

Emerald Lake

Takakkaw Falls

Natural Bridge

Description: The Natural Bridge is an arch that the Kicking Horse River has eroded through a limestone layer. You reach it via a short path from the parking lot. If you have more time, you can also hike the entire 1mi loop trail.

Our rating: Even if you don't have time for a hike, it's worth a stop. The roaring water masses are definitely impressive.

3/5

Emerald Lake

Description: The turquoise shimmering Emerald Lake is certainly one of the highlights within Yoho National Park. You can walk around the lake on a 3.3mi long trail or explore it from the water in a rented canoe.

Our rating: During our visit in June 1998 we rented a canoe and paddled across the lake. There was very little going on and so we could fully enjoy the great lake and the impressive panorama all around.

4/5

Takakkaw Falls

Description: At 380m, Takakkaw Fall is one of the highest waterfalls in Canada. With a little luck you can even see a rainbow at its base. You can reach the waterfall via a short trail from the parking lot. From the end of October to the end of June the road to the waterfall is usually closed. Also, the road is closed to long vehicles because of the very narrow switchbacks.

Our rating: When visiting Yoho National Park, a stop at Takakkw Falls is definitely a MUST. The waterfalls are very easy to reach and really impressive. The landscape around it is also well worth seeing.
