Glen Canyon Dam
Description: Glen Canyon Dam was built from 1956 to 1966. It is a dam that impounds the Colorado River to Lake Powell by means of an arch gravity dam. The dam is 584ft high. The crest length is 1558ft with a crest width of 25ft
To learn all there is to know about the dam, how it works and its importance, you can join one of the tours conducted daily by the rangers. The tours last about 45 minutes, can be reserved 24 hours in advance and start at the Carl Hayden Visitor Center.
Our rating: We liked the tour and learned a lot of interesting facts about the dam. During the tour you get into the dams catacombs and sees things that you normally do not get to see. Those who are interested in such structures will certainly like it here.
Glen Canyon Dam Overlook
Description: The Glen Canon Dam Overlook is located in Page and offers a great view of the dam and the Colorado River Gorge. Coordinate: Latitude 36.923962, Longitude -111.477355. From the parking lot you hike a small trail downhill, over steps, to the viewpoint.
Time needed: about 1/2 hour
Our rating: Surely not a must see, but a nice viewpoint of Glen Canyon Dam and the Colorado Gorge. If you are in Page anyway, you can stop by.
