*The Anual Pass is so to speak the "flat rate" for all Parks managed by the National Park Service. The pass costs a one-time fee of $80 and can be purchased at the entrance to each National Park, National Monument, etc. The pass is valid for 13 months.

Fort Ross State Historic Park
Description: In the 19th century, Fort Ross formed the southernmost Russian base from 1812 - 1841. It was used for fur trading and to supply food to trading posts in Alaska.
After the fort became unprofitable and was abandoned in its form, it changed hands several times. In 1906, the State of California purchased the site restored the surviving and reconstructed lost buildings.
Today the fort is a State Historic Park and serves tourist purposes.
Our rating: Actually, we didn't expect anything spectacular, but we were really surprised because it was very interesting to learn something about the Russian-American history. The Visitor Center has an informative and very interesting exhibition and already gives a nice insight. The fort itself is beautifully preserved and presented in a way that makes it fun to explore everything. Time required about 2-3 hours.
If you're traveling along Highway 1, you should definitely make a stop here. We think it's worth it.
