Piedras Blancas Light Station
Description: The Piedras Blancas Light Station is located about 5mi north of San Simeon. You can only visit the site as part of a guided tour.
Our rating: We unfortunately drove by the lighthouse at a time when no tours were offered. There is a gate on the access road that is locked. You are only allowed through here with a valid tour ticket. However, you can see the lighthouse from the road.
Pigeon Point Lighthouse
Description: Pigeon Point Lighthouse is located between Santa Cruz and San Francisco. It was built in 1871 and is 115ft high. It is still in operation today. Since 1977, the entire site has been listed at the National Register of Historic Places.
Our rating: We visited the lighthouse in early September 2019. It offers beautiful photo opportunities and so we had fun walking along the coast and enjoying the view. We can recommend a side trip to the lighthouse.
Tipp: When we visited, there were a few sea lions swimming in the water behind the lighthouse, between the rocks in the water. Whoever enjoys these cute fellows should keep an eye out for them.
