Lyndon B. Johnson NHS
Description: Lyndon B. Johnson's (LBJ) ranch is located a few miles east of his hometown of Stonewall. In 1951, LBJ bought the ranch and lived there mostly from then on. He also spent much of his time during his years in the White House (1961-1969) here. He received lots of state guests at the ranch, in 1963 German Chancellor Ludwig Erhard was his guest. Because he conducted much of his government business from here, the ranch was nicknamed the Texas White House. LBJ lived at the ranch until his death in 1973. His wife Lady Bird Johnson until her death in 2007. Both are buried in the family cemetery on the ranch.
You can explore the LBJ Ranch by car and enjoy the Texas White House as part of a guided ranger tour.
Attention!!! At the moment (May 2024), the entire area around the Texas White House is closed for renovation work. It is planned to reopen the area sometime in 2025.
Our rating: The visit to the ranch was very interesting and we enjoyed it very much. When do you ever have the opportunity to visit the home of a former US president. Those who are interested in the history of the USA will like it here.
