Route 66 - Texas
Description: A piece of historic Route 66 still exists in Texas, too, and there are a few interesting stops as well, especially in Amarillo.
The Big Texan Steakhouse in particular has managed to attract crowds with a special attraction. Anyone who manages to eat a 4.4lb steak with side dishes in a certain amount of time gets the meal for free. The contestants are sitting on the stage and are watched by the rest of the guests while they are eating.
A little further west you will find the 2nd Amendment Cowboy, a Muffler Man and a few miles further the Cadillac Ranch. The Cadillacs were rammed into the ground by a group of artists here and are now painted and repainted and repainted again by numerous tourists with a lot of paint.....
A must see for every Route 66 tourist is the Midpoint in Adrian. Here you are exactly in the middle between Chicago and Los Angeles. The two cities are 1139mi apart here.
Our rating: We actually liked the part of Route 66 we saw in Texas. The only exception was the Big Texan Steakhouse. For several reasons, it wasn't really our cup of tea. The cantina atmosphere inside was just one thing we didn't like. For us, it's one big touristy nip. But like everything, this is a matter of taste.
We loved the Cadillac Ranch and also the midpoint of Route 66, simply because they are special places and we would definitely stop there again, should our way take us in that direction again.
