Artists´ Paint Pots

Description: The Artists' Paint Pots are reached via a 1.3mi loop trail. First, you walk about a third of a mile through an almost completely burned pine forest. The trees here burned almost completely in the Great Yellowstone Fire of 1988. 
After that, you have reached the Paint Pots. There are numerous pastel-colored pools and mud holes from which it bubbles and steams steadily. The path leads over planks around the geothermal features. After a few hundred meters, the path leads up to a small hill from which you have a great view of the entire colorful landscape. It's easy to see why the area here is called the artists' palette .
If you want to explore the whole area, you should plan between 1 and 2 hours.

Our rating: Maybe not the most spectacular geothermal pool in the park, but because of the many great colors, we found it well worth seeing. The pleasant thing was also that it was not quite as crowded here as at the other pools.
