Our visits: Because of its location, infrastructure and Lake Powell, Page is a very attractive place for us on our round trips through the Southwest. You can use the city very well as a base for explorations in the area. We have been to Page many times over the years. Our last visit was in June 2023.

Page

Description:  Page is located on a plateau directly above the Colorado River and Lake Powell. Page was founded in 1957 because housing was needed for the workers who built Glen Canyon Dam. After Lake Powell was flooded and the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area was established in 1972, Page became a thriving tourist destination. Probably the most famous sights, besides Lake Powell, are the two Antelope Canyons and Horseshoe Bend. In addition, there are numerous other highlights to discover in the area.

Our rating: Precisely because of these almost countless highlights in the area, Page is one of the most important destinations for us on tours through the southwest. With numerous hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, etc., the town offers everything a tourist needs in terms of infrastructure. Because of the lake, Page is also very well suited for a few days of relaxation with sun and beach.

Balloon Regatta Page

Description: The Balloon Regatta in Page takes place every year at the end of October/beginning of November. Numerous balloonists meet to fly through the skies in their colorful balloons. The regatta is much smaller than the one in Albuquerque, but the colorful balloons in the sky are still well worth seeing.

Current: In 2024, the Balloon Regatta will take place in Page on November 1 and 2.

Our rating: In November 2009 we got rather randomly into the regatta that was taking place. We especially loved the glowing, colorful balloons that adorned the entire main street of the city in the evening. If you're in the area in the fall, you should definitely stop by. It is worth it.

Hotels

Description: We have stayed in all three hotels several times and can recommend them.
Positive: Breakfast included in room rate (Best Western), clean and spacious rooms (all three hotels), nice big pool in the courtyard (Courtyard).
Negative: Courtyard breakfast is an extra $14/person/day, tiny pools right in the parking lot or on the street (Best Western).

As almost everywhere in the southwest's popular tourist strongholds, hotel prices in Page have moved steadily upward in recent years. Therefore, you can usually only get reasonable prices between the beginning of November and the end of March.

Our rating: The brewery and restaurant gave us a friendly and welcoming impression. It was well frequented during our visit in April, which is always a good sign.

In addition to numerous types of beer, there is also quite an extensive menu, which includes not only burgers, but also various salads and also pizza.

We liked it here very much. The food and the beer was ok. The atmosphere and service were friendly and pleasant. We can definitely recommend a visit here.

Our rating: The restaurant offers quite solid food in the mid-price segment. It's not super exceptional, but we've always liked it so far.

We can recommend the restaurant.

Bonkers

810 N Navajo Dr, Page, AZ 86040
HOMEPAGE

Description: Bonkers is a restaurant with a Mediterranean-influenced menu. There are some pasta and chicken dishes, but also steaks. In terms of price, the dishes tend to be in the higher price range.

Our rating: Unlike many other restaurants, Bonkers stands out because of the smell of fresh herbs inside the restaurant. From our first visit, we knew that you don't just get the normal American standard food here. The prices are accordingly, in the higher segment. That's why you have higher expectations of the food. We have already eaten here excellent, but were also disappointed, especially by the meat quality of the filet steak.

If only because Bonkers offers a variation on the familiar American food, we'd recommend the restaurant. Maybe minus the steak.

Big John`s Texas Barbecue

153 S Lake Powell Blvd, Page, AZ 86040
HOMEPAGE

Description: Located right at the southern entrance to Page, Big John's is immediately noticeable as you drive into town. The large smokers and the line of people that often stand in front of the door simply stand out.

The restaurant offers everything the BBQ heart desires. From pulled pork to ribs to briskets. Everything is freshly prepared.

Our rating: Since Big John's is very popular in the region and among tourists, you almost always have to wait in line here. The ambience has rather Fast Foot character and is not particularly inviting.

However, the food tastes super delicious and fresh. We can definitely recommend the restaurant.

There was one thing we didn't like at all, though, and that was the mountains of waste that every guest has to produce here. The whole meal is served in plastic or styrofoam and there is also only plastic cutlery and glasses, even if you eat directly in the restaurant.

In addition a small Update from April 2022. Even though you still produce an extremely large amount of waste when you eat here, the food was no longer wrapped in plastic but in paper containers.
